September High School Happenings

29 Aug

August 29, 2013

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!  We are thrilled to be back and look forward to welcoming all of our students and families next week.  School resumes on Monday, September 2nd and we can’t wait to get started.

Freshman Mixer:

We would like to invite all of our ninth grade students to the Freshman Mixer on Sunday, September 1 at 2:00 p.m.   The Freshman Mixer will take place in the Auditorium and students will receive an orientation to high school and their schedules.  They will also be able to meet and mingle with their teachers and peers.

2013-2014 Schedules

All students will receive their schedules in their first period classes on Monday, September 2.  Rosters of student names will be posted outside of the High School Office and Counseling Office so students know where to go for their first class.  Once in their first class, they will receive their schedules for the remainder of the day.

Students should have taken care of their drop/add requests in June.  Schedule changes are not honored in the fall unless there is a specific reason for the change.  Please direct all scheduling questions to the Counseling Office at extension 3131.

School Day Schedule

We would like to remind all of our families of our revised school day schedule.  Courses now meet four times per week, allowing students more regular contact time with their teachers.  A copy of the school day schedule can be found on the High School Blog at the following link: Students will also receive hard copies in the High School Handbook.

High School Handbook

Students will receive the High School Handbook next week.  We will be reviewing sections of it in our classes and we ask that you also take some time to go through our ASK expectations at home.  Please review the Partnership for Success on page 35 and return it to Home Base teachers by Sunday, September 15.  Thank you.

The High School Handbook is posted on our school website at the following link:

Dress Code Reminders:

We want to remind all students and families of the modifications we’ve made to the school dress code.  A summary of the changes is listed below and more details can be found in the High School Handbook on page 16.

  • Pants must be navy blue in color.
  • Pants should be in the style of a cotton slack.  Jeans, jeggings, leggings, stretch pants and the like are not acceptable school attire.
  • Sweat pants are no longer acceptable school attire.  This includes the ASK sweatpants.
  • Girls may wear navy blue skirts, which must be knee-length or longer.

School Polo:

  • All high school students must wear the white ASK polo.  Students wishing to purchase their own cotton polo must sew the school logo onto the shirt.
  • The ASK blue polos will no longer be acceptable in high school.  The blue polo will be worn by middle school students so that we may better distinguish between our middle and high school students.

Thank you for your support as we streamline our dress code and make it more manageable for all.

Students wishing to use their own polos and insert the school logo may download the logo at the following link:

Open House – Change of Date

The High School Open House is scheduled for September 12, 2013.  This has been changed from the ASK calendar.  We look forward to meeting the parents of all of our students and will be sending more information about Open House during the week of September 8th.
