Dear parents and juniors,
You have probably received e-mails regarding our upcoming college night which will be held in the library at 6.00 pm on Monday, March 27th.
This is a very useful event as it will help juniors and their parents understand the different elements of the college application process when applying to colleges in the US, Canada, UK, and others.
Mr. Daniel Marschner, Director of International Admissions and Outreach at Loyola Marymount University, will be joining me in presenting and we will be covering topics such as the importance of a rigorous schedule, a well-written college essay, letters of recommendation, standardized testing, deadlines, majors, and much more.
I believe it is important for students to start thinking about the different components of an application and what differentiates a winning application from others. Hearing this from their counselor and learning about the selection process from a college perspective will hopefully help students get a better understanding of applications and admissions.
I do hope you will join us this coming Monday.
As a reminder, we invite all high school parents (and students) to join us for our second round of parent-teacher conferences. They will begin today from 12:00 – 2:30 and continue tomorrow, March 16th, from 7:15 – 2:00 in the auditorium and library.
Please note the departmental lunch breaks in scheduling of your conferences on Thursday:
- 11:00 – 11:45 Lunch Break for English, Science, IT, PE, Arabic and Religion departments
- 11:45 – 12:30 Lunch Break for Math, History, World Languages, and Fine Arts departments
We look forward to seeing you there!
If you are interested in taking an AP or Honor course next year, you must complete the writing prompt for the course. All writing prompts were offered this week (see post for details).
If you were sick or happened to miss one of the prompts, there will be one FINAL make-up date on Sunday, March 19 from 2:15-3:00 in the library. Please see Ms. Hazel or Ms. Hakim prior to this day in order to sign-up.
Please join us on Monday, March 27th for our College Information Night. If you or your son or daughter are currently enrolled in Grade 11, then this is an important event to attend.
Ms. Hakim, our College & Guidance Counselor, and Dr. Marschner, the Director of International Admission and Outreach at Loyola Marymount University, will be discussing the college application process, admission requirements, standardized testing, and more.
Please join us from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the HS Library. Parents and students are invited and encouraged to attend.
All students now have access to the High School Course Selection Booklet. Please take some time to review this information and discuss all course options available.
Students also have a Course Registration sheet. Remember, course registration selections are due to the Counseling Office by Monday, March 20.
If you have any questions about classes or scheduling, please see Ms. Hazel or Ms. Hakim in the counseling office.
Please note, the following days vary from our normal schedule:
- March 15: Half-Day (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
- March 16: No School (Parent-Teacher Conferences)
All students interested in taking an Honors or Advanced Placement (AP) course must complete a timed, free-response writing sample for the course or courses to which he/she wishes to apply.
Please note the dates and locations for each course and plan accordingly. Free-response times will run from 2:15 – 3:00 on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. On Wednesday, the timing will be from 11:25 – 12:10 due to parent-teacher conferences.
Any student who wishes to write two tests that are being given the same day must speak to either Ms. Hazel or Ms. Hakim PRIOR to the day of the test.
