Dear parents and juniors,
You have probably received e-mails regarding our upcoming college night which will be held in the library at 6.00 pm on Monday, March 27th.
This is a very useful event as it will help juniors and their parents understand the different elements of the college application process when applying to colleges in the US, Canada, UK, and others.
Mr. Daniel Marschner, Director of International Admissions and Outreach at Loyola Marymount University, will be joining me in presenting and we will be covering topics such as the importance of a rigorous schedule, a well-written college essay, letters of recommendation, standardized testing, deadlines, majors, and much more.
I believe it is important for students to start thinking about the different components of an application and what differentiates a winning application from others. Hearing this from their counselor and learning about the selection process from a college perspective will hopefully help students get a better understanding of applications and admissions.
I do hope you will join us this coming Monday.
Support the Senior Class at their Shawarma Sale on Monday, March 20th, across from the canteen – Cost: 0.750 kd / sandwich.
As a reminder, we invite all high school parents (and students) to join us for our second round of parent-teacher conferences. They will begin today from 12:00 – 2:30 and continue tomorrow, March 16th, from 7:15 – 2:00 in the auditorium and library.
Please note the departmental lunch breaks in scheduling of your conferences on Thursday:
- 11:00 – 11:45 Lunch Break for English, Science, IT, PE, Arabic and Religion departments
- 11:45 – 12:30 Lunch Break for Math, History, World Languages, and Fine Arts departments
We look forward to seeing you there!
Please join us on Monday, March 27th for our College Information Night. If you or your son or daughter are currently enrolled in Grade 11, then this is an important event to attend.
Ms. Hakim, our College & Guidance Counselor, and Dr. Marschner, the Director of International Admission and Outreach at Loyola Marymount University, will be discussing the college application process, admission requirements, standardized testing, and more.
Please join us from 6:00 – 7:00 pm in the HS Library. Parents and students are invited and encouraged to attend.
Please plan to attend the High School Electives Fair, tomorrow, March 6th, anytime between 2:15 – 3:00 in the auditorium.
All elective teachers, including Advanced Placement classes, will have a booth or table set up and be available to answer any questions you may have – including questions about content, expectations, and course load. They may also have handouts available to share even more information.
If you’ve ever wondered about an elective, are curious about requirements for an AP or just aren’t sure what is available, this is a great chance to find out more!
See you tomorrow.
Items will be for sale this week only, near the canteen, throughout lunch. See you there!
Many of our our grade 9, 10, and 11 students have shown interest in attending the Elite College Preparatory Summer Academy, offered by Columbia University, but were experiencing difficulties when trying to register. These issues have now been rectified and all students who registered should have received an email. (If you did not, please drop by the HS Office and speak to Ms. Thomas.)
If you are interested in receiving more information regarding the program and/or applying to attend the program, please go to this site to register: web.elitedirection.com/registration. Once you register you will receive an email with your username and a temporary password, as well as a second email with further instructions about logging in, how to access the application, and the application deadline.
Please note that registration and applications are due by Thursday, February 16, 2017. Registered students will then be notified, by the end of February, whether they have been selected to move forward with taking the online admissions exam and any following steps.
Thank you for your interest in this program. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Murphy at email@example.com or stop by the HS Office to speak to Ms. Thomas.
